Current projects that Co-op is continuing include:

• Window Replacement Program: Replacing single-paned windows with double-pained, argon-filled insulating windows. These help to reduce heat loss and energy consumption.
• Toilet Replacement Program: Getting rid of those old toilets that used more than 13 L of water per flush and changing to 6 L "low-flow" toilets. This has reduced water consumption by 3,800,000 litres each year.
• Showerhead Replacement Program: Losing the old showerheads to replace with aerating showerheads that reduce the water consumption from up to 20 L/min to 5.6-9.5 L/min.
• Faucet Replacement Program: Replacing the old taps that use from 25-50 L/min with ones that use 8.3 L/min.
• Boiler Replacement Program: Once the old boilers reach their life expectancy, they are replaced with high-efficiency combination boilers which operate at 93% efficiency.
• Light-Bulb Replacement Program: All of those energy-hogging incandescent lightbulbs have been replaced with Compact Fluorescent Lightbulbs (CFL) to save energy.
• Exit Sign Bulbs: 200 exit sign bulbs switched from an incondecent 15 watt, 1 year life span bulb to a 1.5 watt LED, 25 year life span bulb saving 23,000 kilowatt hours per year.
• Local-Organic Food Purchasing Program: Talk about something tasty! This program encourages purchasing for the meal program to be more environmentally-friendly, locally-grown and organic. You won't find many GMOs here!
• Organic Waste Collection: All organic waste from 397 Brock St is being collected! There is such a large volume at this location (50lbs a day!) that we can't use the municipal collection. The program has just begun but it's obviously working since this week we had 75% fewer garbage bags to put out.
